Short Description

JOB SUMMARY
Support Gestamp North America R&D with process definition and forming feasibility for press hardened steel (PHS) components. Identify potential problems early in the development process and proactively recommend product changes that will lead to robust and cost-efficient production.

Support cross functional project teams as the die and forming feasibility expert. Attend customers’ tech reviews and defend design proposals regarding forming feasibility and process robustness analyses.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.    Design, in a CAD (Catia/NX) surface environment, Die and Binder surfaces, then using these designs, perform forming simulations using extensively scripted LS-Dyna packages.
2.    Review designs and requirements to create process setups from steel coil to final part, including identifying risks in the processes and create proposals to minimize those risks.
3.    Develop and deliver to OEM customers, design proposals, with focus on process improvement, adhering to design requirements from both OEMs and Gestamp.
4.    Function as manufacturing technical support for sheet metal components as needed for both internal and external customers.
5.    Maintain agreed timing plans and continuously inform responsible program manager and/or other stake holders (e.g. plants, OEMs) regarding project status changes, open issues and agreement deviations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1.    Fundamental knowledge of die design and/or die build.  Strong knowledge is a plus.
2.    Fundamental knowledge of sheet metal forming.
3.    Basic level CAD (Catia V5 or NX) is required.
4.    Experience with CAE forming simulation software such as LS-Dyna.
5.    B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent shop experiences with trade school certifications in tooling, die design, DFM or similar.
6.    OEM interaction and product development experience is beneficial.
7.    Basic metallurgical knowledge is also beneficial.

7.    May be required to work extended hours on occasion.
8.    Occasional local, domestic and global travel may be required.
9.    Skills in additional languages commonly used in the automotive industry are welcomed.
