Product Development Engineer
Short Description
The Product Development Engineer position will be responsible to concept and direct design of Battery Pack Structures, to meet requirements of North American Automotive OEMs, government regulations and internal Innovation projects.
As a Product Development Engineer for Battery Pack Structures, you will work with our CAD/CAE team to develop new product designs and optimize existing products provided by our customers. You will be responsible for developing competitive design solutions where lightweight, cost and safety are a priority. Along with being responsible for the design, you will be required to generate/present technical reports summarizing the concepts and results. Knowledge of material sciences and manufacturing processes are required. Basic use of CAD tools for product evaluations (sectioning, clash detection, mass …etc.) are required (Catia/NX).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Lead a team of CAD/CAE engineers in developing Battery Pack Structures to meet or exceed customer (Cost/Weight/Performance) goals and regulatory requirements.
2. Benchmarking (industry trends, BIW structures, competitor’s innovation/solutions).
3. Manage CAD work in PDM (TeamCenter) or windows environment.
4. Facilitate cross-functional teams (CAD, CAE, Mfg., Commercial … etc.), in developing the most efficient design solutions, using Gestamp corporate technologies.
5. Support commercial and division teams in quote proposal activities.
6. Ensure client timing and performance expectations are met, negotiations may be required.
7. Conduct regularly scheduled design reviews.
8. Investigate new material applications and advanced manufacturing technologies.
9. Provide detailed report/presentation showing design progression and value proposition to the customer (Cost/Weight/Performance) and Gestamp Management.
10. Share study findings/knowledge with other Gestamp competencies (globally).
11. Maintain Project open issues/Task list/Timing/deliverable documents.
12. Participate in Value Analysis/Value Engineering workshops to increase value and lower costs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
2. 2 – 5 years of experience related to product development (Steel/Aluminum)
3. Knowledge of automotive safety regulations. (US NCAP, FMVSS, IIHS … ect.)
4. Understanding of GD&T and datum applications
5. Strong working knowledge of MS suite (MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel and Word).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of manufacturing processes (Stamping, Roll forming, Casting & Extrusions)
2. Knowledge of material joining processes (Spot/Mig/Laser, Mechanical – Rivet types)
3. Knowledge of material science (steel & aluminum in particular)
4. Languages: English is mandatory, Swedish, Spanish, French and other languages beneficial.
5. Ability to represent company in a positive manner, under all conditions, involving direct customer interface (face to face and presentations).
6. Ability to professionally communicate, in both written and oral formats.
7. Must possess good analytical and leadership abilities.
8. This job requires local travel and occasional travel outside the US, passport and personal vehicle are required.
