Key Responsibilities
- Ensure you work in a safe manner and encourage all team members to follow all health, safety, and environmental requirements
- Support IATF and quality system requirements for the department
- Work to ensure all dies produce a part to the customer's specifications
- Enter all time for the day into SAP
- Perform last off tooling checks and check parts on the gage if there are any issues
- Be urgent answering all press calls and react quickly to make a decision for any downtime related to tooling
- Work toward meeting or beating the budget setup for the tooling department
- Work with the team leader throughout the day to understand priorities
- Take the initiative to keep work orders moving through the tool room
- Adapt to schedule changes and needs of the plant
- Ensure standard work is followed
- Treat all team members with respect, and promote teamwork
- Attend daily meetings to discuss workload for the day/week/month/year
- Responsible to keep the area you work in clean and organized
- Problem solve die issues and getting involved in the planning activities to resolve issues
- Attend learning opportunities to gain professional and technical knowledge
- All other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager
Education and Experience
- Tool & Die journeyman's card or proof of (10) years related experience
- Experience troubleshooting in a production stamping plant
- Experience with progressive dies is required. Other experience in tandem, transfer, and ejection mold
- Experience in hot stamping and implementation of engineering changes and buy off of new tools is a plus
- Computer proficiency – Outlook, Word, and SAP is a plus
- Understanding of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing is a plus
- Reporting out on tooling downtime/KPI’s
- Understanding of TS16949 or IATF as it relates to this department
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to lead cross functional team members
- Strong communication skills including written, verbal, and listening
- Strong organizational skills, with follow up
- Competent in problem solving, team building, planning, and decision making
- Ability to work overtime as required and different hours/shifts as manpower requirements or issues deem necessary
- Ability to use and explain how to use precision/hand tools as they relate to tool and die
- Knowledge on the operation of manual machines, such as, mills, lathes, saws, and different grinders
- Knowledge of welding applications, spotting application, the operations of a CNC, and GD&T as it relates to gages and gage instructions
- Ability to read and interpret CMM reports and scan data as it relates to dies and part quality
- Competent in new die construction
- Knowledge of die functions, setting dies in a press and rebuilding standard die components
- Knowledge of hot stamping technologies is a plus
- Operate cranes, hilo’s, die cart, and any other equipment for working on dies or die setting assets
Physical and Mental Requirement
- Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk and hear
- Occasionally lift or move up to (50) pounds
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time
- Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted
