Job Summary

Assembly Controls Technician will provide support, leadership and direction to the Maintenance Technicians regarding controls systems.  The Assembly Controls Technician will support and carry out the assignments and responsibilities assigned to them by the Engineering Manager or his/her designees.

Duties & Responsibilities

In general, ensure the achievement of OEE / equipment availability targets for the individual Business Units.

  • Plan and implement improvements within Assembly related to the specific controls systems.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams supporting activities related to controls implementation.
  • Provide technical support for controls systems during the introduction of new models.
  • Ensure proper controls specific documentation delivery form the Original Equipment Manufacturer and support buyoff activity of new assembly equipment as needed.
  • Provide technical support to Assembly maintenance department for resolving controls related issues.
  • Support the Assembly Department Technical Training and Development program by conducting training classes, providing technical documentation, etc.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform duties of an Assembly Maintenance Technician as needed (occasion off shift work may be required).
  • Ensure properly documented equipment breakdown/activity reports.
  • Work with area maintenance planner and Controls Engineer to prioritize tasks to be done during non-production hours.
  • Ensure scheduled maintenance tasks are completed and on time.
  • Assist in identifying training needs for Maintenance Technicians.
  • Provide feedback to supervisor for performance appraisal documentation.
  • Ensures Root Cause Analysis of downtime is properly investigated, addressed and communicated.
  • Electrical circuit troubleshooting, Pneumatic troubleshooting, Hydraulic troubleshooting.
  • Ensure procurement of critical spare parts as it relates to controls items, consult with vendors as needed.
  • Ensure controls documentation is up to date.
  • Responsible to train new Maintenance Technicians in equipment and safety as assigned.
  • Maintain safety standards of equipment in work area.
  • Support implementation of Engineering Changes as it relates to controls systems

Education & Experience

Electronics Technology or Mechatronics plus 5 years of automated manufacturing technical experience required. (- OR -)

7+ years experience and training in a similar role and environment.

Knowledge, Skill & Abilities

  • High skill set with PC and communication skills.
  • Good understanding of IO, transfer of information between Robot and PLC, and PLC functionality.
  • Good understanding of robot program flow and basic programming theories.
  • Practical experience and good understanding of electrical circuitry and wiring.
  • Sound mechanical ability to work on robot dress packages and peripheral equipment.
  • PLC (Siemens, Allen Bradley), Experience with FactoryTalk, Indusoft, GuardLogix, A-B Servo Drive systems. Will be a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in robotic-PLC debugging/programming position.
  • Ability to work in a team-based lean-manufacturing environment.
