Die setter

Position Summary:

A Die Setter is responsible for safe and effective execution of die and coil setup activities, including support activities that such as safety checks, roles during changeover activities, readiness checks, participation in the daily management system and 5S in the die storage areas and on assets.  If requested by management they may also perform die PM, finger/gripper rebuilds, die wash, and date stamp changes. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Wears required PPE and is aware of all safety key points related to the job and work area. Ensures proper lockout/tagout procedures are followed
  2. Monitor the work environment for safe working conditions and safe behaviors by others. Takes action as necessary to maintain health and safety of others, provides direct feedback and reports any risk behavior and unsafe conditions to Team Leader.
  3. By learning multiple jobs through job-instruction-training, develops full skill in the execution of standardized work for each process.  This includes thorough understanding and capability to execute all key and knack points.
  4. Diligently executes Standardized Work during all production periods.
  5. Perform all tasks on their daily checklist for cranes and operate and pre-inspect straps and slings before use
  6. Responsible for cleaning and inspecting bolster plates, die tops and bottoms.
  7. Completes required PM die set equipment activities and check sheets as needed.
  8. Completes finger/gripper rebuild activities as needed.
  9. Responsible for aligning pins in bolsters and ensure bolts are tight and properly fastened.
  10. Responsible for keeping the die storage area organized and clean when pulling or placing dies in this storage area. Puts dies in correct locations.
  11. Responsible for preparing dies for production by setting, bolting, centering and securely fasten dies to the bolster, and changing date stamps.
  12. Responsible for setting up coils for coil-fed assets.
  13. Responsible for executing their role in SMED as specified by standardized work.
  14. Accountable to perform safety checks on all equipment and light curtains when performing duties.
  15. As a team player, provides technical support, troubleshooting, and implementation of corrective actions.
  16. Improve overall safety and efficiency related issues by taking a pro-active lead in the continuous improvement activities, especially related to tool maintenance and preparation and execution of die changes.
  17. Immediately notifies to Team Leader of any identified situation that may put the quality of products at risk.
  18. As a team player, Die Setter is expected to take an active role in housekeeping of the work area (5S).
  19. Helps in opening, flipping, and washing dies in the tool room as needed.
  20. Any other duties as deemed necessary or appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. The individual must be flexible relative to the work schedule including possible mandatory overtime.
  2. Ability to work under pressure to tight timelines.
  3. Excellent verbal and written skills.
  4. Mechanically inclined
  5. Experience with high tonnage presses and operation
  6. Problem Solving skills
  7. High attention to detail
  8. Self-motivated
  9. Familiar with automated tooling
