JOB SUMMARY:
As the Tooling Manager, you would manage and lead the tooling team, oversee all tooling operations, and ensure high standards of precision, quality, and safety. Managing our tooling team requires strong leadership, mentoring, and coaching skills. The Tooling Manager will also review, recommend, and guide the integration of new advanced systems & technologies, and drive continuous improvement in our tooling processes & procedures. The Tooling Manager is responsible for Hot Stamp/Cold Press Tooling and the Machine Shop across all 3 shifts.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Management:
- Lead and manage the tooling team, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities.
- Set goals and objectives for the tooling department, aligning with our company strategies.
- Foster a collaborative environment, encouraging innovation and problem-solving.
- Plans and administers personnel capacity for optimal production.
Tooling Operations:
- Oversee the execution of tooling fabrication, repair, and refurbishment, ensuring adherence to production schedules, and quality standards and optimizing production workflows.
- Implement and manage integrating systems and advanced technologies, into our tooling processes.
- Manage costs and efficiency of employees and equipment.
- Develop and oversee certification programs for tooling staff, ensuring compliance with all tooling processes and safety protocols.
- Participation and cooperation in answering questions and providing information for internal and external audits related to ISO 9001/IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, and customer standards.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve and improve tooling-related issues
Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance tooling efficiency, reduce costs, and improve tool longevity.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve tooling-related issues and
Training & Development:
- Mentor and train Tooling Engineers and area leaders
- Lead the development of training materials and programs to upskill the tooling team.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field with experience in automotive manufacturing tooling
- Proven leadership experience, with a track record of managing teams and driving successful and sustained process improvements
- Comprehensive knowledge of metal forming, with desired knowledge in draw die binder development, forming limit diagrams, and thinning analysis.
- Knowledge of die weld repair, machining, and spotting.
- Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings and sketches.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Experience leading employees in an automotive manufacturing setting.
- Experience in the automotive manufacturing industry.
- Demonstrated and can verbalize where, when, and how they have implemented successful continuous improvement projects both long term and short term
