Assembly Engineer

Job Summary

The Process Engineer is responsible for leading troubleshooting, repairs, and continuous improvement efforts for assembly and laser equipment. This role partners closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to reduce downtime, improve throughput, and optimize equipment performance. The Process Engineer will oversee projects from concept through implementation, develop preventive maintenance programs, and provide leadership and technical guidance to maintenance personnel.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Reliability & Maintenance

  • Lead troubleshooting and repair efforts on assembly and laser equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and controls-related issues.
  • Implement and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs based on OEM recommendations and operational learnings.
  • Support maintenance technicians in the repair and upkeep of machinery according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform machine repairs as needed to support production requirements.
  • Implement PLC logic changes to improve equipment performance and reliability.

Project Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute equipment, system, and facility improvement projects within established budgets and timelines.
  • Lead equipment uptime and downtime reduction initiatives.
  • Champion continuous improvement activities to increase productivity, quality, and efficiency while reducing costs.
  • Perform functional modifications and engineering changes to equipment.
  • Lead problem-solving and root cause analysis activities for equipment-related issues.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Develop and lead weekly maintenance work plans for the assembly and laser maintenance teams.
  • Serve as a technical mentor and resource for maintenance personnel.
  • Identify training needs and lead technical training initiatives for maintenance and operations teams.
  • Communicate project updates, maintenance progress, and equipment issues to the Maintenance Manager.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and plant safety standards.
  • Promote and lead 5S initiatives throughout the maintenance area.
  • Ensure proper use of safety devices, PPE, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Support and adhere to Quality (IATF) and Environmental (ISO) Management Systems requirements.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of systems, documentation, and procedures supporting quality and environmental standards.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience, preferably in an assembly and/or laser manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of assembly and laser manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled equipment and automated manufacturing systems preferred.
  • Experience leading equipment improvement, reliability, or maintenance initiatives preferred.
