Role Summary
The Assistant Materials Manager plays a key leadership role in overseeing inventory control, material flow, and supply chain efficiency within the manufacturing environment. This position supports the Materials Manager in achieving departmental goals and ensures accurate inventory management through effective supervision, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration. The role requires strong SAP expertise, analytical skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support inventory control activities, including cycle counting, reconciliation, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Lead and mentor inventory staff, including training on SAP transactions, cycle counting procedures, and root cause analysis.
  • Monitor and improve inventory accuracy and material availability to support production schedules.
  • Collaborate with production, assembly, and logistics teams to anticipate and resolve material-related issues.
  • Analyze inventory trends and discrepancies to identify systemic issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with ABC Classification schedules and audit requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the Materials Department.
  • Maintain and optimize SAP inventory processes and reporting tools.
  • Support label management and resolution of labeling issues.
  • Assist in forklift operations and certification compliance as needed.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in inventory/materials management in a manufacturing environment; automotive industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

 

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands for handling materials and tools.
  • Visual acuity for close and distance vision, color and depth perception.
  • Exposure to moderate noise and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to concentrate and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
