Job Summary

The Press Shift Supervisor is responsible for the daily management and efficient operations of the Press department on his or her assigned 3rd shift. The Press Supervisor will ensure that Press lines meet production, safety, quality goals according to Gestamp Automotive standards. This position will support production and maintenance to minimize downtime and seek continuous improvement activities to improve operations of the Press Department. The Press Supervisor will manager and provide leadership to six hourly production employees for a Tier 1 Automotive suppliers.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Report daily production, update schedules and manpower based on production needs and inventory levels.
  • Manage manpower needs.
  • Lead in continuous improvement efforts based on Key Performance Indicators (KPI) data.
  • Partner with the other departments to ensure proper support is maintained for the press room for quality, maintenance and raw materials.
  • Manage the departmental costs to keep on or below budget.
  • Conduct/Manage performance evaluation of hourly employees.
  • Oversee safety, quality, cost, delivery and management activities in the stamping zones including daily operations as well as continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate activities with opposite shift production.
  • Effectively utilize and continuously improve the use of labor, equipment, quality, safety, and productivity within cost and delivery parameters.
  • Analyze and act on all quality concerns with staff. Thoroughly explain quality alerts and ensure containment. Assist with 8D problem solving.
  • Exercise proactive best supervisory practices in hiring, training, discipline, coaching, development and termination with all staff.
  • Participate in daily and weekly production and management meetings.
  • Visually monitor daily proper parts handling practices and monitor associates work area being free form clutter and recognize and address all safety concerns/violations in their assigned areas.
  • Ensure that all hourly associates within the department on assigned shift receive the necessary training to accomplish their assigned duties. Identify training gaps. Often perform training personally. Properly document training.
  • Follow all state, federal, OSHA and Gestamp health, safety, environmental laws, regulations policies and procedures.

Education & Experience

  • Associates degree in a technical field, and/or skilled trades training in tool and die or mechatronics
  • Minimum of 5 years production experience in similar industrial setting (stamping/welding/robotics) required
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in leading production teams required
  • Excellent Class A part experience preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of class A/B/C parts (press and assembly parts) preferred
  • Programming knowledge: Industrial: PLC's, Robots (Robotic arms, welding) preferred
  • Lean Manufacturing tools (VSM‐VSD, SMED, 5S, KAIZEN, Ergonomics and Security & Lean) preferred
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) intermediate level required
