Plant Controller

JOB SUMMARY
The Controller is responsible for the management, guidance, coordination, administration, and control of financial analysis, budget accounting, cost communication, information technology, and reporting activities for the plant’s financial and accounting requirements. This role will ensure compliance with legal regulations as well as corporate policies, partner with corporate finance and accounting staff, and guide plant leadership on operational financial decisions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
2. Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standard to actual production costs.
3. Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital.
4. Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers.
5. Follows reporting routines/standards as required by division and corporate leadership.
6. Audits contracts, orders, vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.
7. Installs, modifies, documents, and coordinates implementation of accounting systems and control procedures, including budget preparation.
8. Devises and implements systems for general accounting and cost accounting functions.
9. Provides recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, expenditures, and cost efficiencies in new product layouts.
10. Directly supervises employees in the plant finance and accounting department, carrying out responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and procedures, and applicable laws.
11. Conducts interviews; onboarding of new department team members; establishing and carrying out training and development plans, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; coaching and mentoring.
12. Conducts studies and submits recommendations for improving the organization’s accounting operation.
13. Collects appropriate data and assists in preparation of federal, state, and local reports and tax returns.
14. Advises management regarding insurance coverage for protection against property loss and potential liabilities.
15. Arranges for audits of company’s accounts.
16. Adheres to Quality, Safety, and Environmental policies.
17. Understands and follows all required GPS standards.
18. Any task deemed necessary by Management.
19. Develops standards on annual basis.
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in related field;
2. Master’s degree, CMA, CPA preferred;
3. Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a controller for a Tier I or II manufacturing facility;
4. Knowledge of integrated manufacturing SAP strongly preferred.
Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge of purchasing and related accounting processes;
2. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook);
3. Experience with SAP and Aribia strongly preferred
4. Knowledge of basic cost analysis;
5. Highly detail-oriented and organized with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities;
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
7. Ability to conduct market analysis via use of online tools (Covisint, Ariba, Power BI, etc.);
8. Willingness to travel when required;
9. Motivated self-starter and creative thinker seeking out opportunities for improvement;
10. Ability to set priorities and determine resource requirements with limited supervision;
11. Team-oriented and familiar with Lean Manufacturing principles;
12. Strong business judgement.
